The Front Porch in Hattiesburg
for Christmas.
205
Thornhill Drive.
The Front Porch is on
the northeast quadrant of the I-59 and 98/Hardy Street interchange.
Coming in from the north on 59 you take exit 65. Coming in from the
south on 59 you take the exits 65 a&b. If you haven't been there
before, Thornhill is almost like a frontage road and there's a bit
of a trick to making the correct turn onto it. Ask, or watch
what the bikes ahead of you are doing!
This is the meeting where
we donate a check to a charity.
As a little bit of advance
notice, there will be some sort of a system, so that the restaurant
management will be comfortable that they get paid for everyone who
eats. Be certain to sign in and ask about the control system. The club pays for each member's meal. Guests pay for their own.
Lunch is at noon, and the

Return to Shiloh rally
TVA Campground at the
Pickwick Dam,
Just off Highway 128
14 miles south of Savannah, TN
We're getting together at
the Return to Shiloh Rally put on by the BMW Riders Association of
the Mid-South, . The rally is just over the border into Tennessee.
The banner and flag will be displayed at the campground. Here's
the link to the BMW-RAMS site that describes the rally! Bring
your camping gear and spend some quality time with your favorite BMW
friends!
Here's
part of why Shiloh is important [Nat'l Park Service website]: The
two-day battle, April 6 and 7, 1862, involved about 65,000 Union and
44,000 Confederate troops. This battle resulted in nearly 24,000 killed,
wounded, and missing. It proved to be a decisive victory for the federal
forces when they advanced on and seized control of the Confederate
railway system at Corinth, Mississippi.
So,
transportation is a key feature during conflicts. If you control the
railway system and the river system (say, Vicksburg) then you're in
a much better position than if you don't.

Go to Bike Week and then tell us about it at Louise's!
If you are coming in on I-55, take exit 72, (that's the exit for highway
27 on the north end of town), and Louise Open Pit Barbeque is to the

I'll bet everyone but
me knew this: Copiah county, and Crystal Springs were both founded/created
in 1823. Remember that Newton County was founded in 1836 out of Choctaw
lands. Copiah dates about 13 years earlier. Crystal Springs was founded
by a Methodist preacher. When the railroad was built (1858) they moved
Crystal Springs the 6 miles necessary to put them alongside the railroad.
Being a big agricultural center alongside the railroad, Crystal Springs
took the moniker, "Tomatopolis of the world."
Lunch is at noon.

Dunn's Falls Water Park
Pat Harrison Waterway Park, entry fee of $1.25 (I think).
6890 Dunns Fall Rd
Enterprise, MS
(601) 655-8550
12 noon for lunch; 1pm for the meeting. This is a bring-your-own-everything meeting at a great waterpark!
South-or-north on I-59, exit west on Exit 142 and follows the signs to the park. The park is on the east side of I-59, so you'll run under I-59 at some point. From Exit 142, it's a quick left onto Meehan-Savoy Rd, and then another immediate left onto Dunns Falls Rd. My Streets and Trips says the park is 3.2 miles down Dunns Falls Rd from the intersection of Meehan-Savoy and Dunns Falls Rd.
Dunn's Falls features a 65-foot water fall created in the mid 1850's by John Dunn, an Irish immigrant, that not only provides pristine beauty --the water fall that is, I'm not that familiar with Dunn-- but also provides the power needed to run a grist mill by a water wheel. I think there's a complicated story about the grist mill.
Amenities include picnic tables, toilets, and a bath house and swimming in the holding pond above the mill or wading in the river. Sadly, skinny-dipping is not allowed. Stocked with catfish and complete with ducks, the mill pond and a picnic area are a great spot for a motorcycle club meeting. It's a little disappointing that because we lack rain, the pond is down and the waterfall is a trickle.
From "Off The Beaten Path": "Famed hat maker John B Stetson honed his skills (click here) at Dunn's Fall near Meridian. It was here that the haberdasher designed his most popular creation, a men's hat known simply as "the Stetson"."
For the GS riders and the brave others (dirt roads), after visiting Dunn's falls a trip to Stucky's Bridge (click here) is a neat side trip. Old man Stucky had a hotel near the bridge. Stucky robed then murdered 20 of his guests. Stucky would toss the bodies of his victims from the bridge to dispose of the bodies. The authorities caught up with Stucky, hung him from the bridge, and then cut his body into the Chunky. Legend has it that Stucky's ghost now haunts the bridge.

Lunch is at noon. The meeting is at

and Route 15, exit 109, about 65 miles east of Jackson on I-20. Newton County, Mississippi, is
the only perfectly square county in the state. It's about 568 square miles, and it's history comes about like this:
The treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek
was signed on September
28, 1830 in what would become Newton county. The treaty traded the
Choctaws some Oklahoma land for their Mississippi land. Neshoba County
and other area counties were created in December 1833 from the Choctaw
Indian Lands. Newton and other counties were organized
on February 26, 1836 out of Neshoba county. The
county was named for the scientist and philosopher Sir Isaac Newton
Just a little north of Newton is Union.

.
From the South on Hwy 59 take the Lumberton exit (#41). At the first stop sign (Shell
station) turn right (north) on Hwy 11, go 2 or 3 blocks, passing the
Chevron station and look for the brown Park sign and make a left.
That road is Myrick Rd and becomes Little Black Creek Road. Follow
the road for about 7 miles to the Park.
From the North on Hwy 59 take the Purvis

town and over the overpass to the 4-way stop sign. Go left (South)
on Main St and follow the road past the Courthouse to a large T-intersection.
Jog right, then left around the First Baptist Church noting the brown
Park sign as you take your left. That becomes Purvis to Baxterville
Rd. Follow that road for about 4 miles until the brown sign directs
you to turn left on Corinth Rd in the middle of a left hand curve.
Follow Corinth Rd for about 1 1/2 miles. Take a left on Little Black
Creek Rd and follow it to the Park.

Ruby Tuesday in McComb,
MS. Get off of I-55 at Exit 18. Ruby Tuesday is on the east
side of the interstate. Mapquest shows the road as 570, but it
might be known locally as Veterans Boulevard. Notice that I think
this is a week later than our typical monthly meeting, because we'll
probably be able to get a report from Daytona Bike Week.
Lunch is at noon. The meeting is at 1pm.
Feb 12
Tom King's plantation in
Decatur, MS. The easiest way to find Tom's house is to come north
eight miles from I-20 on US 15 until you get to the only traffic light
in Decatur. Turn left, right, left, and you wind up in his front
yard. For the directionally challenged, he'll post signs.
Decatur
is not that big. If you stand at the traffic light and shout,
we'll probably hear you (unless we're inside the shop). That's
a slight exaggeration.
Besides promising chili
to eat, he offers camping space. There are three options.
First, you can throw a bag in his large shop, which has a bathroom,
cooling, and electricity. Second, you can tent in his yard.
Third, there's a really nice campground only a little south of Decatur,
Turkey Creek Water Park on Highway 15.
Tom is a terrific host,
he fixes a great chili, and you'll see what a proper shop looks like.
He'll undoubtedly have some interesting bike that's in the middle
of surgery.
Lunch is noon. The
meeting is at 1pm.
