FEBRUARY 2012 BLOG

As you get older, time flies by faster and faster.  Just yesterday it was Christmas and now Valentine’s Day 2012 is about to be in the books.  That also means that warmer weather is getting closer.  I just did an annual service on the bike checking and changing the non-routine things.  I have also made hotel and other reservations at some of the hot spots we will be going to.  I started reading up and planning on the other fun things we would like to do this year.  Throughout the year, Laurissa and I actually make a list of things we would like to do as  we watch TV shows and read magazines.  Laurissa gets Mississippi Magazine and comes up with many ideas.  Planning is a very fun part.  BUT then it is also fun to just go with no planning.  I remember several years ago on a Friday about 4 in the afternoon, I called Laurissa and said pack your bag we are headed to the coast when I get home.  So about 7 that night we pulled out of the driveway headed south.  Laurissa talks about this weekend trip often because it was an absolutely beautiful night with a full moon looking over our shoulders.  We got to the coast about 11:30 and there was not a room to be had.  We slept on a couple of wooden chairs on the beach.  Stupid, maybe? Fun, YES!!!  It was hot and all the smells and sounds of the water made it great.  Last year, we had a trip to Arkansas planned with the MTF, but then a work obligation came up so we had to cancel.  Well, needing a road trip, bad, once again, we just left out one afternoon after work and went to NW Arkansas with no notice.  Rained almost the entire time and we got there about midnight.  Who cares that it raine 75 percent of the weekend.  We rented a cabin and made another chapter for the “memories on 2 wheels” book.  I just cannot tell you how much fun Laurissa and I have had riding.  Once the kids got out of the house 12 or so years ago, we discovered that we had some extra money, (boy those kids are expensive) and I got the motorcycle bug.  It is a great disease to have and it can take you to so many places.  This year we will finish up our quest to ride all 50 states, Canada and Mexico.  Next year we can start cherry picking some of the best areas for a repeat visit and spend more time smelling the roses.  Maybe we will go ride the Alps.  Who knows.  By now, ya’ll have discovered I can ramble on and on while I dream of our next great ride.  We have met some great people along the road.  The Mississippi BMW riders is a small group but is made up of some just good ole folks that add to my love of riding.  I really look forward to when we as a group can work out some details and make a trip or two.  JUST FOR THE RECORD, THIS IS A CALL-OUT for a rider to the MOA Rally in Sedalia, MO.  Jim, did I hear you say you were going?

As always, God Bless and Ride Safe,

Alan
