6:00 PM
Tom Hill, 2000 BMW K1200LT, Champagne, MS License MC 427, USAA Insurance.
Will David, 1999 BMW K1200LT, Champagne, No license plate issued (Jackson County
is out of MC Plates, have a letter from the Assessor's office), GEICO insurance
Traveling southbound on Hwy 15, Harrison County, north Biloxi. Approaching the intersection of Hwy 15 and Cedar Lake Road. The intersection is controlled by a traffic light.
Tom was in the lead and Will was following. Speed was about 60 MPH. The sky was overcast and there was moisture on the road, though it wasn't raining at the time.
The light was red, so Tom began slowing.
Will was inattentive and did not see that Tom was slowing until just before
impact. Will braked hard (thank you ABS), but not enough to avoid impact. The
front of Will's motorcycle squarely struck the rear of Tom's motorcycle.
Both motorcycles remained upright and came to a halt safely.
Gulfport officer Will Tannehill (#140) came upon the scene after both machines had been moved to a parking area off the roadway on Cedar Lake Road. He examined the machines, interviewed the riders and composed Biloxi police report #03-063169. Copies of the report can be obtained by telephoning (228) 392-0641.
Visible damages:
Tom's machine: Bent trailer hitch, scuffed top box, shattered brakelight/taillight, right side box mounts broken and box damaged.
Will's machine: Headlight assembly shattered, fairing broken and shoved rearward (FUBAR), front fender mounts broken and fender gouged, front tire damaged.
There are sure to be damages to the structural components of both machines: braces, fittings, connectors, etc.
Rear - Tom: You can see the tire marks on the trailer hitch support that reach almost to the wheel hub. Will's front tire hit on the steel bar, just to the right of the hitch ball.
Front - Will: The entire fairing was pushed back about an inch, and the fender crushed down onto the tire.
